dead like me

i am hugely anti-tv, and yet i have succoumbed.
i watch jon stewart and the colbert report religiously.
but i can rationalize to myself that it's educational. it probably is true that i get most of my news from them or morning edition.
the crazy thing is that they aren't making that stuff up... just when i think it can't be real, i see a "serious" news show and there it is.

... but i digress.
i have found a new addiction... dead like me.
my son hooked me.
the premise is that the main characters are reapers... as in the grim... they collect the souls of people as they die and cross them over, and in between they live pseudo lives in low level jobs trying to make ends meet. the primary character is a young girl who died when something fell out of the sky and hit her on the head. she is able to watch her family in their grief and healing, and it is subtle and funny and very, very moving. i have regularly laughed and held back tears as i watched.
the last episode i watched was where they filed people's last thoughts...
they were remarkably the same and at the same time monotonous and slowly worked through the defenses of all the reapers... as the leader told them... we are witnesses.
we are witnesses.
we are witnesses.
we are witnesses.
we need to see the people around us.
