Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy might. This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it. Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself....

Theology is probably the most important and most ludicrous study there is. How can finite man understand infinite God... and how can you not want to?

I'm a teacher who understands the value of KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. I think Jesus practiced this when he answered that man's question. Love God and love your neighbor. The simplest and hardest teaching imaginable.

This teaching is the guiding light of my faith journey, and it is never easy.

Why is it hard to love God? ... a dead baby in my trembling hands, a suicide, children whose youthful bodies are mutilated by speed and chrome, brave men and women sent into the face of death by rich, white men of questionable motives, a world in which the earth is desecrated, where women and children and the poor are expendable, a time in which God's name is used to bless wanton evil. My heart cries out against God in these times, and it seems that only silence answers. God's voice cannot be heard when my heart is so full of my own voice.

Why is it hard to love others? ... my own personal nemesis is all those other idiots on the road with me :-), all those others who don't appreciate my worth, those others who infringe upon what I consider to be my rights, those others who touch deep wounds that I thought I had bound away forever, those others who hurt my child, the hardest of all to forgive, those others who think they are the center of the universe... those others like myself, who find it so difficult to be kind, to see beyond behavior to the person who God says is how we love God.

The truth is even simpler, and more of a mystery. When we love others, we love God. When we love God, we love others. It is theology.
